Kuma | Honduras Arturo Paz

I picked up a bag of this coffee on a whim last time I passed through Seattle. I got it at Milstead & Co’s espresso bar in Fremont. It’s a natural process cofffee from the La Colmena farm of Arturo Paz near Santa Barbara, Honduras.

Check out our YouTube Review.

To quote Kuma’s website:

“This very limited lot comes from Cup of Excellence 7th place winner Arturo Paz and his farm La Colmena. A third generation coffee farmer, Arturo bought this plot of land in 2007 and planted it with 100% red catuai coffee shrubs, a distinctive choice compared to the dominant Pacas variety of the region.

He’s competed many seasons in the Cup of Excellence, always placing in the top 10, his coffee also placed 2nd in the Late Harvest National Competition in 2016. His passion is to grow his crop in harmony with the nature around it, keeping shade trees and other crops planted throughout the farm.”

- Peter Mark Ingalls and Kuma Coffee

It’s a classic, single origin light roast. Kuma’s tasting notes include “Passionfruit, Grape Drink and Hibiscus”.

We gladly went through our entire 12oz bag. Passionfruit - otherwise known to me as Lilikoi - is definitely present in our tasting notes. It’s a little brighter and more floral than a typical tropical notes, which probably explains the “grape drink and hibicus” intrepretation from the Kuma team.

I’m a huge fan! 95 points. I loved this coffee and am sad to see it go. Regrettably, this batch of coffee is sold out! I feel really lucky to have found. If this analysis has excited you, there are plenty of places to find Paz’ coffee online. Just google “Honduras Arturo Paz”.
