Ladro | Sumatra Ribang Gayo

Limeade, grape candy and bubblegum?! Summer surely must be approaching. Today we reviewed some beans from Seattle’s Caffe Ladro.

Ladro has a lot of great coffees from Sumatra, and this one from the Ribang Gayo Musata Cooperative fills in nicely as a first cup of the day sort of coffee.

Sumatra was the source of the first coffee that really turned my head. Probably because naturally processed coffee - where the cherries are left in the sun to rot away, leaving the bean behind - is so common there.

This offering by Ladro is a good place to start. But it is pretty abstract. My take on the tasting notes is that it is abstract, light fruit. Somewhere between grape and citrus. This might well be a deficiency with my ability to taste. I'll work on it! In the meantime, this coffee pairs really well with a chilly, early spring morning.
