D&M | Costa Rica
Ellensburg is home to Central Washington University, enormous afternoon winds and the north end of the Yakima River canyon. The city produces a lot of underdog goodness - like the Iron Horse Brewery - and D&M Coffee has similarly delivered.
Having passed through town on the way out of an event in the canyon, I squeaked in to their flagship store in downtown E-berg before they closed. I bought a coffee to keep me awake on the long drive home through the night, and left with a bag of their Costa Rica - the only single origin medium roast I could find.
What a surprise!
It was very smooth for a medium roast, having a flavor profile dominated by toasted grains. But there was some mild brightness here, but the fruit flavors remaind abstract to my palette. Regardless, I really enjoyed this coffee and was even more surprised when I made a gallon batch of it for my neighbors using the percolator.
Smoothness I think is an overrated feature in coffee, but in this specifric case its juxtaposition was highlighed even more in this percolator batch. This is a great coffee to mix with milk, especially if you’re going to make a latte at home.
